New Posts Coming in January 2015

The response to this site was overwhelming in 2014, both from readers and authors.

Being authors ourselves, we got caught up trying to finish our own work and basically stopped posting new features in May. However, we are returning in January of 2015 with more new posts every Tuesday and Friday. We'll also try offering more of the authors you already love, as well as some giveaways, interviews, and some audiobooks.

In the meantime, we are still posting occasionally to the Facebook site and to Twitter. We thank you for a marvelous year and for visiting this page. We hope it introduced you to some new work.

Here's wishing you some wonderful reading through the upcoming holidays!

As Ms. Pierce blithely goes about unearthing a past best left forgotten, Calen is torn between his anger at her intrusion into his life and the profound effect she has on him. C791 by Eve Langlais

I love SciFi romance, and this series is interesting. This is the first book and deals with the initial revolt of the cyborgs. It's steamy, but also delves into the man vs machine question. Book 5 is releasing this week and has been on pre-order for a while. I'm featuring it on my other blog if you want to hop over and take a peek. ~ DM

But when it comes to a battle between logic and love, which side will the cybernetic organism—once a man—choose?

THE WISH LIST by Gabi Stevens

I met Gabi at Bubicon in Albuquerque, NM last year, but only recently did this work come up on my reading list. I ended up reading these books back to back, and got more drunk on magic than her reluctant fairy godmothers. These stories are pure reading fun. ~ DM

Book 1 of the Time of Transition Trilogy

In the magical world a Time of Transition occurs every seventy years. Old Council members step down and new ones are chosen, but the biggest change is the appointment of the Fairy Godmothers. Unlike their role in storybooks, Fairy Godmothers protect the barrier between the magical and human world.

Only this time the transition won’t be smooth.

When Kristin Montgomery discovers her three aunts are fairy godmothers and she's next in line for the job, her uncomplicated life disappears like magic. No, not like magic; it is magic. Kristin not only has to deal with burgeoning magical powers, but also a reluctant arbiter, a selfish sprite, and a suave French sorcerer. When one of them turns out to be the bad guy, Kristin must learn to trust her heart and her instincts to keep herself and the ones she loves out of danger.

Set in contemporary San Diego, The Wish List combines fantasy with romance with and a touch of humor. ~ Gabi Stevens

BREATH OF FIRE by Liliana Hart

This is not your average dragon book and I've read a lot of them. The heroine is both the focus and the power of the story. I was hooked from my first glimpse of Rena Drake. . . and not just because Liliana is one of my overall favorite authors. ~ DM

Rena Drake is descended from a society that was created 500,000 years before Atlantis—the Drakán. Since their Banishment to the human world, Rena has become an Enforcer for her people, keeping the peace among her dragon brethren and making sure their identities stay a secret.

When a group of rogue Drakán begins killing others of their race who refuse to join the army of The Destroyer—the man from Prophecy they believe will finally be the true king—Rena has no choice but to take action. Killing others of their kind is an automatic death sentence, and Rena’s job demands that she draw up a warrant of execution before they kill again. Every clue leads Rena to believe that Julian, leader of one of the five clans, is The Destroyer. But when Rena confronts Julian to kill him, she discovers that he is her lifemate, deemed so by the gods from the blue mating fire that engulfs them—a power thought lost since the Banishment.

Matters are further complicated by Noah Ford, a psychic who works for the FBI. Rena knows he’s keeping his true identity a secret from her, but she’s drawn to him just as she’s drawn to Julian. Noah vows to become her protector against The Destroyer, but it’s going to be difficult for Noah to keep his promise when her life force is tied to the man she’s destined to kill.

INITIATE by Nulli Para Ora

Bound in service to the king, Initiates are selected and brought to the palace to forfeit their lives and fulfill their calling. That is until duty and honor clash with self-preservation. The resulting test of wills may destroy a kingdom and a new love which should never have seen the light of day.

On the surface, the kingdom of Minra appears idyllic, steeped in peace and prosperity. This peace comes at a price. The villages of the kingdom offer up Initiates—individuals who vie for the chance to be selected as the King’s Companion—to preserve the kingdom. Initiate and Companion are the most honored and coveted roles in all the land, for Companions nourish Minra’s monarch with their life force until they die, allowing their wise king to survive for generations.

Under Ritual Trainers bound in service to the king, Initiates are selected and brought to the palace to fulfill their duty. All Initiates greet this opportunity with happiness and reverence. Almost all. One Initiate forsakes time-honored traditions in favor of self-preservation.

Is this forfeiture of life a worthy trade—or even necessary—for the good of the kingdom? In the battle for superiority, can love survive and overthrow generations of sacrifice and tradition?

If anyone would have told me five years ago that I would be caught up in books featuring Grim Reaper characters, I would have given them the "Are you crazy?" look. Now I'm enamored of these unique paranormal characters. Lisa pulled me in and I felt like I was developing right along with her. The only thing I hated about this book was that I did not want it to end. Thanks for the frustration, Boone Brux. Where's the next one? ~ DM

What do you get when you cross a hockey mom with the grim reaper?

Me, Lisa Carron. If being a depressed, frumpy, widowed mother of three wasn't bad enough, I just found out I'm a grim reaper. I know what you're thinking. Wow, that's kind of sexy and full of awesomeness. Hardly. Oh, and my clients? Stupid people. Like I don't get enough of that from the living.

Since Alaska is big and angels of death are few, I've been partnered with reaper extraordinaire, Nate Cramer. He's strong, silent, and way too good looking for my recently widowed state. Oh, and he reaps violent criminals, so that should be interesting.

Forget the danger and the hours of self-analysis it will take for me to find my reaper mojo. My biggest problem? Hiding it all from my overly attentive family and nosy neighbors. Now that's going to take a miracle.

STORM'S HEART by Thea Harrison

I loved Dragos, the Dragon, in Book 1. However, I found Tiago, the Thunderbird, to be equally sexy and memorable. Maybe it was because he was mythological and unlike any shifter I had read about before. Rarely does a character seem invincible, but this hero came across to me as absolutely unshakeable.  ~ DM

BOOK 2 of the ELDER RACES Series

He’s a wyr warrior, a god of storms. She’s the heir to the Dark Fae throne. But desire will bring both to their knees in this all-new Novel of the Elder Races.

During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle found sanctuary among the wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle’s death, there are those who don’t want to see her ascend to the throne…

Able to wield thunder and lightning, wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the wyr’s best weapons. And he’s sent to protect Tricks when she’s almost assassinated in Chicago.

Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them—a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds…

The Elder Races series is set in an alternative universe where magical and mythological creatures live openly alongside humankind.  The stories are full of insouciant sexy alpha heroes and the strong-minded heroines that tame them.   ~ From Thea

We are currently taking submissions from paranormal romance authors wanting to be featured. Indie and traditionally published authors are both welcome. Work must be both paranormal AND a romance. To increase your chances of a yes from us, please read all the following before sending us a request. Thank you.

If You Write YOUNG ADULT or NEW ADULT Paranormal Romance,

Please Read This Information Before Submitting A Title To Us

At this time we are not seeking any YA or NA titles for features. New Adult might be an okay fit, but these titles will be reviewed on a case by case basis.  Some of the excerpts on this site have some graphic language and some mild sex scenes, such as touching or kissing. Though we take reasonable precautions to keep the content above a R rating, none of the features on this site are suitable for young YA readers.

Please Read This Information Before Submitting A Title To Us

Covers and excerpts must support the Risky Readers site in striving to maintain a PG13/R rating, BUT also remember that readers may purchase this book based on this feature. This means that we hope the covers, blurbs, and excerpts fairly represent the title being featured. We want as many readers as possible to feel comfortable browsing this site to find new paranormal romances to read.

At time time, we have adopted a middle-of-the road acceptance policy. This means we are not featuring titles with menage covers and excerpts, and we are not willing to feature books with non-consensual sex scenes of any sort even those that end well.

If you want to be featured here, please offer us titles that are "middle-of-road" in terms of language and explicitness so we can promote your writing and work alongside the rest of our authors. Lots of RR authors write many different heat levels. We link to your author website in your article. Readers that choose to do so will be able to click the link and see the full range of your work on your site.

We hate saying no to featuring books because of content or covers, but we are learning to say it when we think we can't promote a book fairly.

Other Considerations

Books submitted to Risky Readers should adhere to minimal good writing practices such as being professionally edited. They also must be available for sale or download on at least two standard sales sites commonly used by readers, such as Amazon, B&N, Apple, Kobo, Smashwords, ARe, etc.

Send us a link to the Amazon (or other sales channel) sale page for the book you would like to see featured. Email:

Tell us 2-3 paranormal romance sub-genre labels you might want for your title (such as Werewolves and Time Travel). Please look at some of the titles and see how it works. Click your potential label to see what shows up in that search.

After we check out your book, we will get back to you about what we need to put together the feature. We look forward to featuring your work (our readers do too).
